London, 26th November 2013: Following the news that Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) has released a reworked version of the official PlayStation App, further information has now also been released on the wider services and applications available for the next-generation PS4 console when it launches across Europe on November 29th 2013.
PlayStation has always been dedicated to giving fans the best entertainment options on all platforms and that is no different for PS4. In total, 18 of everyone's favourite entertainment apps and services will be available across SCEE on PS4 from launch day including Music Unlimited, Video Unlimited, IGN, BBC and VidZone(TM)
Alongside its place as the most highly anticipated gaming console this decade, the services and apps available on PS4 make it a central home entertainment hub. Plus, whilst other consoles require a subscription to access online entertainment services, PS4 users can access all of these features without subscribing to PlayStation(R)Plus (PS Plus).
Music Unlimited is a cloud-based digital music streaming service that hosts a global catalogue of over 20 million licensed songs including all major labels, leading independent labels, and major publishers worldwide. The Music Unlimited service is the ultimate music subscription service for users who want to play their music whenever and wherever and will be available on PS4 from launch day.
The Video Unlimited service is the Video Store of PlayStation Store - an a la carte video streaming/download service that features thousands of movies, including the latest blockbusters and classic films from every major studio, as well as independent studios from across the globe, in standard definition, 1080p HD and 3D. It also features a selection of popular TV shows from a wide variety of content providers. Movies are available to rent or buy without subscription, with rental movies available to start viewing up to 30 days from purchase, and can be viewed multiple times within 48 hours on the same device once viewing begins. The Video Unlimited service will also be available on PS4 from launch day on November 29th.
Alongside these exciting services, a number of others will also be available for all PS4 users between launch and 4th December, these include:
An optimized version of IGN, available first on PS4 ahead of any other console, where users can stream the latest videos and get up-to-date games information and all the news they could ever want (29th November)
BBC iPlayer lets you enjoy BBC TV all in one place, allowing users to watch and listen to programmes on their TV using a PS4. With over 400 hours of TV and Radio there is always something to suit every taste (29th November)
Through VidZone, PS4 users can stream thousands of music videos directly - with no limit to how many personalized video playlists can be created. VidZone is updated constantly with the latest music and all time classics, with the added incentive that users can instantly let their friends know which videos they recommend by sharing via Facebook (December)
Streaming unlimited movies and TV Series direct to your PS4 is easier than ever through theAmazon/LOVEFiLM service. Connecting is easy, with users simply logging in with their normal LOVEFiLM username and password then choosing from thousands of films to watch instantly (29th November)
In addition, through the Netflix service, you can watch what you want, when you want, with no adverts or hassle. Bringing the world of cinema and TV straight into your home quickly and easily, the Netflix service will be available to all PS4 users from launch day. (29th November)
Other services available on the 29th November include: BBC Sports, BBC News, Wuaki.tv, Total Channel, Demand5, RTBF, NOS Sports, Ximon, Watchever, maxdome & Viaplay and then joined by Quickflix on 4th December. And all are coming to next gen games consoles first with PS4.
Alongside these 18 apps and services available on the PS4 when it launches, a further 20+ will be made available by Spring 2014 - more than doubling the amount of services and the entertainment possibilities available. This will include Game One, FilmoTV and TuneIn - the latter letting PS4 users listen to the world's sports, news, talk, podcasts, interviews and music from over 100,000 global radio stations and 2 million on-demand programmes.
Further apps currently available on the PlayStation(R)3 (PS3) will continue to migrate over and join the exciting array of PS4 services such as MUBI, as improvements and optimization continue to take place - ensuring that every experience on PS4 is better than ever before.
